Ann GuddallAdministrative Assistant Department of Human Development and Family Studies
Professional and Scientific Employee Distinguished Service Award
As an administrative assistant, calling Ann Guddall a jack-of-all-trades would hardly do justice to the plethora of responsibilities that she undertakes on a daily basis. That she is able to manage all of these while maintaining a smile is a true testament to her professionalism, accessibility and dedication. Ann’s co-workers are quick to note the exceptional preparation and knowledge that she brings to every job she tackles. This is especially impressive given the wide assortment of tasks for which she is responsible. Among the most critical is managing the budget of the department, which involves the continual tracking of resources and allows it to operate efficiently while knowing where it stands, where to allocate resources, and when to refrain from spending so that the budget remains in balance. Her diligence in these matters ensures that assistantship support, special travel requests and new equipment purchases remain consistent throughout the academic year. She always pays close attention to detail and makes extra strides to guarantee the accuracy of information, qualities that are essential to success in her position. For instance, Ann regularly reports on course scheduling and workload assignments for all faculty and lecturers. This is critical in informing the department on what is feasible to change and necessary to maintain when it comes to course offerings for both semesters and the summer session. She has also supported the development of computing labs through the purchase of hardware, software and other technical equipment while providing training on how to use the new technology. The recruitment and orientation of excellent lecturers is yet another of her many duties. Given her record of outstanding service, it comes as no surprise to hear a faculty member remark, “I feel relief knowing that Ann has everything under control.”
