Early Achievement in Research Award
For his investigations into the sources of student satisfaction, analysis of faculty workload, and the meaning of non-response in surveys, Stephen Porter has been flagged by his colleagues as a rising star in the field of education research and evaluation. He has received three awards for the best paper of the year from national associations for his rigorous quantitative research methodology and clearly-conveyed studies. Porter serves as an editorial board member for the Journal of College Student Development and Research in Higher Education. He is also the chair of the U.S. News and World Report committee in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. In 2006, he reviewed grant proposals for the National Science Foundation. With John Schuh, Porter is writing a book that focuses on the methodology of assessment of student development and student affairs. His monograph, Overcoming Survey Research Problems, provides researchers with methodological guidance for using surveys for research.
