Yong Chin Pak is a renowned master of judo, hapkido and tae kwon do whose emphasis on the art and philosophy of martial arts has impacted the lives of more than 30,000 students since he joined the ISU faculty over 30 years ago.

Pak’s influential nature and dedication to bring out the best in everyone he contacts has earned him over 40 awards, honors, and citations. He has written two texts that are used in his classes

He leads by example, demonstrating what enthusiasm, integrity, dedication and hard work can accomplish. He rarely denies requests for assistance.

“As one person, we can be like a drop in still water, as we help and love others; they in turn are more likely to help and love others, thereby acting as concentric rings, spreading care, love and understanding in society,” said Pak. As such, his influence is felt across Iowa State University and around the globe.

This award was presented during the winter social for faculty and staff on Thursday, Dec 6.
