Amander Carter
Elementary Education 2003

This award was established in 1997 to recognize alumni for remarkable early career achievements.

During her four years at Iowa State, Amanda (Hastert) Carter impressed her professors with her dedication to the field of education, determination to excel, attention to detail, and leadership abilities. During her time at the university, she received the Branstad Scholarship and was also a First in the Nation for Education (FINE) scholar.

As an undergraduate student, Carter created a Spanish lesson that was later published in "Learning Languages," a journal for early language learning. She was also invited to attend the National Educational Computing Conference in 2002, along with ISU professors, where they presented their work in the TechCo Cohort.

Today, Carter is teaching second grade at the Fay Herron Elementary School in Las Vegas, Nev. She devotes countless hours to planning creative and stimulating lessons for her students as well as attending professional development workshops to improve her teaching. She is always ready to assist other teachers with writing assessments, creating student tracking forms, and curriculum development activities. Her professors at Iowa State consider her to be a wonderful ambassador for the university and a superb addition to the nation's teaching force.
