Alumni Medal

Established by the ISU Alumni Association in 1948 to recognize ISU alumni for long, loyal, and outstanding service to the university through alumni-related activities. The alumni medal is the premier award given to alumni by the ISU Alumni Association. One medal is granted annually.

1949, Home Management

Formerly an extension home economist for Jasper and Marshall counties, Harriet Smith continues in retirement to serve Iowa State University and the people of Iowa. She embodies the land-grant mission of research, teaching, and service in her role as volunteer and alumna. She recruits for Iowa State, both formally and informally, by hosting international students and by serving as an Administrations Ambassador.

Smith has received numerous honors and awards from the university, including the ISU Extension Achievement Award, and the Jasper County 4-H Alumni Award.
