Barbara JohnsonAlumni MedalBy the Iowa State University Alumni AssociationEstablished by the ISU Alumni Association in 1948 to recognize ISU alumni for long, loyal, and outstanding service to the university through alumni-related activities. The alumni medal is the premier award given to alumni by the ISU Alumni Association. One medal is granted annually.
Barbara Johnson is a respected ambassador for Iowa State. She has worked with the Black Hawk area 4-H for 15 years, and in 1979 received the ISU Alumni Service Key Award from the Black Hawk County ISU Club for outstanding community service. She has served on the ISU Extension Advisory Committee, Home Economics Alumni Executive Committee, was president of the Black Hawk County ISU Women’s Club, and an ISU legislative liaison. A life member of the Alumni Association, she served on the Association’s board of directors in 1989-94. She and her husband, Ronald, are members of the Order of the Knoll.
In 1990 she received the Helen LeBaron Hilton Recognition from the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Johnson has a deep, personal interest in the rights of the mentally disabled. She founded the United Cerebral Palsy Group for Northeast Iowa and served as chair of the Mental Health Retardation Development Disabilities County Board. |
