The College of Human Sciences was formed on July 1, 2005, by combining the former College of Education and College of Family and Consumer Sciences. This combination was the result of 17 months of work by a 19-member Planning Committee, support from numerous sub-committees and work groups, input from hundreds of constituents, review by faculty and students, a decisive vote by the Faculty Senate, endorsement from the central administration, and ultimately approval by the Board of Regent, State of Iowa. The final proposal for the creation of the college received unanimous approval from Regents on December 16, 2004.
Work leading to the combination was divided into two phases, the Planning Phase (Febraury 1, 2004-December 16, 2004) and the Implementation Phase (January 10, 2005-June 30, 2005). The combination became effect on July 1, 2005.
Leadership during the Planning Phase was provided by a 19-member Planning Committee with support from 13 work groups. Documentation of work that took place during the Planning phase can be found on the Office of the Provost web site, at www.provost.iastate.edu/educfcs/.
During the Implementation Phase, Provost-level planning was led by an eight-member Steering Committee with support from seven sub-committees. College-level planning was led by an 18-member Cabinet with support from seven sub-committees.Documentation of the work completed during the Implementation phase can be found at www.hs.iastate.edu/incomm/.
