As a newly formed enitity, the College of Human Sciences is continues to formulate its governance. Governance is shared by the faculty and the Dean of the College. Its structure is organized to meet the goals and mission of the University as a whole and the interests of the college as outlined in the mission, vision, and goals.
In January 2005, the Committee on Committees, was established under the leadership of Cheryll Reitmeier to plan the structure of committees for the newly formed College of Human Sciences. Recommendations for the formation of 17 standing committees was presented and accepted by the faculty in August 2005. Membership on each of the 17 committees is composed of faculty and staff, according to the accepted recommendations.
In May 2006 a report from each of the 17 committees will be reviewed by the faculty and staff to determine the appropriateness of each committee's goals, procedures, and committee membership. Along with the Committee on Committees, two additional committees were formed to review, discuss, and recommend procedures related to the important topics of promotion and tenure, and policies and procedures. The Promotion and Tenure Planning Ad-Hoc Committee, under the chairmanship of Ann Thompson, has met regularly and prepared a draft copy of a promotion and tenure procedures handbook that will be reviewed and voted on by the faculty in April 2006. Gary Phye and Ann Marie Fiore have been chairing the Policies and Procedures Formation Committee, which is developing the manner in which business of the college will be conducted. Once the committee has formulated its recommendations, the faulty and staff of the College will vote on that recommendation. Until the formulation of a new policies and procedure document, the policies of the founding colleges are followed.
